Guillermo has been an organizer with the volunteer-led Walla Walla Immigrant Rights Coalition (WWIRC) since its inception more than four years ago. He listens because he believes there is a healing element in telling life stories, not just for the people sharing their stories but also healing for their families and the people that have been in similar circumstances. He also believes that the anger between communities can be leveled with empathy. One of his motivations to join this project is the opportunity to listen to stories by immigrants in the community.
Originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, Guillermo loves living in Walla Walla. He is an avid reader, especially of books related to philosophy and psychology. Guillermo is also an enthusiastic salsa dancer and finds joy in simple things, like walking around Walla Walla or enjoying a cup of coffee at his favorite coffee shop.
Guillermo hopes to keep working towards a more unified Walla Walla community.
