Marian is an international student from Guatemala and El Salvador, who has resided in Walla Walla since August 2019. She is currently a senior at Whitman College studying Sociology and Latin American History, with a focus on global politics. This summer of 2022, she will serve as the intern for The Listeners Project: Queremos Escucharte. She listens because she believes in the power of personal stories and their impact on community healing and in valuing lived experiences. She believes it is important to document oral history for present and future generations.
Walla Walla has become a second home for Marian, and she hopes to continue building relationships with the community through story-sharing. Marian’s favorite thing to do in Walla Walla is enjoying the local food and looking at the magical sunsets in the wheat fields. She is eager to continue listening and learning and provide a space for voices that are not often heard!
